This creative design was done by an artist who wants to design cars. It’s overall form is biomorphic, however, the body is deconstructed into several elements that seem to float separate from the structure. The engine is exposed at the rear of the vehicle adding a brutalist touch. The air intakes are treated as pure engineering shapes while in contrast, the radiator is a teflon bag mounted and floating above the body lengthwise on the drivers side of the car. The design has absolutely no functional rational and yet it works as a design.
Ford Motor Company recognized his exceptional idiosyncratic talent and hired Lahti as a catalyst for creative stimulation to the Ford Design Staff. They gave him the fantastic opportunity to design 2 concept cars, The Contour and the 92 Ghia Focus( see Focus page). These 2 vehicles have had great influence on other designers.
